Japanese Turtle Paste Resist Dyed Kozo Paper

This stylized turtle from Japanese heraldry was made by screen printing a flour resist paste onto Japanese kozo bark paper, applying dye thickened with carrageenen, then washing off the paste after setting the dye. This is loosely based on a Japanese textile dying technique called katazome.

Saguarowaza Screenprinted T-Shirt

Original 3-color silk screen printed t-shirt design for Arizona Aikido. Saguaro Waza is a bi-lingual pun. Suwari waza refers to techniques performed from seiza (a seated/kneeling position). Saguaro waza would be techniques performed by the iconic cactus of the Southwestern United States of America. The blended yellow and red colors of the text also evoke the Arizona sun.
